RETIME Project Launches Video Highlighting Innovative Urban Resilience Solutions

As European cities grapple with increasing climate-related and human-made disasters, the EU-funded RETIME project is taking action. A newly released video highlights the urgent need for improved urban resilience and demonstrates how RETIME’s innovative solutions can help cities adapt and thrive.

Extreme weather events—such as hurricanes, wildfires, heatwaves, and heavy snowstorms—are on the rise, disproportionately affecting vulnerable populations. Many cities lack long-term resilience strategies tailored to local challenges, leaving communities exposed to growing risks.

To address these issues, RETIME is developing key tools to support urban resilience, including:

  • A resilience knowledge hub and decision support platform to aid urban planning;
  • An automated sensor-based IT alert system for improved disaster response;
  • A digital building twin to model and predict structural resilience;
  • A digital building renovation passport to guide sustainable renovations.

Between 2024 and 2028, RETIME will test these solutions in three pilot locations: Lisbon (Portugal), Žilina (Slovakia), and Tartu (Estonia). Each site offers unique climate conditions and urban challenges, ensuring that RETIME’s solutions are adaptable to different environments.

By equipping decision-makers with advanced risk assessment tools and fostering community awareness, RETIME is working toward a future where cities can better withstand and respond to climate change challenges.
