These short videos offer a direct look into how local authorities and researchers are applying RETIME tools to address climate-related risks—ranging from floods and heatwaves to cold spells and landslides. Each interview highlights the specific challenges, priorities and solutions being developed in collaboration with local communities.
“RETIME will help us measure the impact of extreme events—especially heatwaves, floods and earthquakes—and act before they happen.” — Filipa Roseta, City Councillor for Housing, Local Development and Public Works, Lisbon
Lisbon’s pilot focuses on strengthening preparedness in the Bairro da Boavista neighbourhood—a socially cohesive area with a long history of innovation. In the interview, Filipa Roseta explains how RETIME is helping the city: anticipate the effects of extreme weather, identify vulnerable populations and upgrade buildings using digital twins and renovation passports.
“We will co-design inclusive solutions with vulnerable communities—especially people with special needs—and help public authorities make more informed decisions.” — Dana Gavalierová, Coordinator of Environmental Projects, Žilina Self-Governing Region
Žilina’s pilot responds to the challenges of a mountainous, predominantly rural area affected by floods, landslides and rising heatwaves. In her video, Dana Gavalierová outlines how RETIME supports: multi-risk assessments for better emergency and spatial planning, digital tools to prioritise investment in vulnerable buildings and co-creation of inclusive solutions with citizens, particularly those with special needs.
“RETIME gives Tartu better chances to adapt by providing tools to mitigate heatwaves, cold spells and flooding—solutions that are co-developed with the community.” — Rene Tõnnisson, Executive Board Member, Institute of Baltic Studies
Tartu’s historic city centre provides a unique testing ground for RETIME solutions. Rene Tonisson describes how the city is combining innovation and inclusivity to: develop real-time alerts and simulation tools for buildings and districts, engage housing associations and residents in resilience planning and protect vulnerable communities, while preserving cultural heritage.
All three pilots are testing the core RETIME digital toolkit adapted to different local contexts and informed by the needs of people on the ground. This video series offers a behind-the-scenes look at how RETIME is working in practice—through the voices of those leading the way. Watch, learn and share to help promote local leadership in climate resilience.
