The Conference on Natural Hazards and Resilient Infrastructure Monitoring (ICONREM) 2026 will bring together researchers, engineers, and practitioners working at the forefront of natural hazard resilience, infrastructure monitoring, and multi-risk analysis. The fourth edition of the conference will take place in Florence, providing a dynamic international platform for exchanging knowledge and fostering collaboration across disciplines.
Hosted by leading academic institutions, the technical sessions will take place at the headquarters of the University of Florence Department of Architecture (DIDA), while the opening and closing ceremonies will be held in the historic Palazzo Vecchio, one of the most iconic landmarks of the Renaissance city.
Recent natural disasters—including floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, and landslides—have highlighted the vulnerability of infrastructures and human settlements worldwide. In response, CONREM 2026 aims to raise awareness and promote innovative strategies that connect engineering solutions with socio-economic resilience, ultimately strengthening communities in the face of multi-risk environments.
The conference will explore cutting-edge approaches to risk assessment, monitoring technologies, and resilience planning, while encouraging the development of advanced computational methods capable of delivering accurate numerical solutions within feasible computing times. These innovations are crucial to supporting risk-informed decision-making in an increasingly interconnected and climate-affected world.
The conference welcomes scientific contributions across a broad spectrum of themes related to natural hazards and resilience, including:
Multi-risk assessment of structures and infrastructures
In-situ monitoring and remote sensing for multi-risk analysis
Geophysical, geological, and hydrological risk assessment
Infrastructural, environmental, and socio-economic resilience
Public outreach, education, and engagement on multi-risk challenges
Applications of artificial intelligence in civil engineering
A particular emphasis will be placed on research addressing multi-temporal and multi-spatial scales, as well as innovative approaches to modelling, mapping, and analysing complex risk data.
Beyond the technical programme, CONREM 2026 will offer participants the opportunity to experience the cultural and historical richness of Tuscany. With sessions hosted in the heart of Florence and ceremonies taking place in the historic Palazzo Vecchio, the conference promises an inspiring setting for dialogue and collaboration.
The RETIME project will take part in the conference, contributing to discussions on co-design stakeholders’ ecosystem and multi-risk assessment from city scale to building level.
Stay tuned for updates on RETIME’s contributions and activities at ICONREM 2026!
