Organised by ICLEI Europe and the European Environment Agency (EEA), the forum has served since 2013 as a key European platform for dialogue on climate change adaptation, disaster risk management, and resilient urban development. Participants share practical experiences, explore innovative approaches, and discuss policies that help cities and regions respond to increasing climate risks.
The 2026 edition, hosted in Guimarães – European Green Capital 2026, will focus on integrated approaches to climate resilience that go beyond adaptation, highlighting the role of cities—particularly small and medium-sized municipalities—in driving innovative, citizen-centred resilience strategies.
During EURESFO, four Horizon Europe projects of the Resilience of the Built Environment cluster (MULTICLIMACT, MULTICARE, MINORITY REPORT, and RETIME) will organise a session focused on key enablers for resilience, including innovative financing mechanisms, as well as AI and digital tools to address compound climate risks. The session will bring together insights from these projects, which contribute to strengthening the resilience of the built environment. Drawing on experiences from pilot cities across Europe, it will highlight how local administrations are testing and deploying innovative tools and approaches to improve the assessment of climate risks, support the prioritisation of resilience measures, and enhance preparedness for extreme events affecting buildings, infrastructure, and urban systems.
